PAYMENT OF MEMBERS.
THE MOTION CARRIED

LONDON, August 15
In the House of Commons, the Opposition moved to reduce the payment of members in the first place by a lump sum, and secondly to £3OO per year. The legality of the Government proceeding by resolution instead of by Bill was questioned. The Right Hon. D. Lloyd-George said the Government had proceeded by resolution as it preferred that the principle should bo annulled by discussion instead of being made rigid by Act.
After debate, the motion in favour of the payment of £4OO to members was passed, the amendments being negatived.
COMMISSION OF EMPIRE
The Right Hon. D. Llovd-George. replying to a question, said Mr L. Hareourt was now in communication with the Dominions, relative to the composition of the Royal Commission 01 Empire Trade.
