MASTERTON FIRE POLICE.

ANNUAL SMOKE SOIAL.

A large number of gentlemen attended the annual smoke social of the Masterton Fire Police, held in the Druids' Hall last evening. Apologies for absence wore, received ifrom Messrs W. Morris, D. Caselberg, and W. H. Jackson.. Mr E. •G. Eton presided, and the following toast list was honoured: — The King, proposed by the chairman; Trust Lands. Trustees, Mr Ewington, Mr A- Hatha way; Fire Board, Cantain Dixon," Mr 0. Pragnell; Fire Brigade* Constable Russell, Superintendent JenJkin s;' U; F .8 .A., Lieut. Braggins; ex-Superintendent J. Archer; the ladies, Mr Palanion,tain, Mr P. Gilbert; the Press, Mr L. H. Lewis, Mr J. Darvill. A most enjoyable programme was submitted. It inckided songs by Messrs J. Elder, A. Long (encored), Fireman Le Ford, Fireman McGill (enicored), and Mr W. Iggulden (encored), mandoline duet,Firema* McGill and Le Ford (Martinborough), encored; mandoline solo, Fireman MoGiil (encored), and a recitation by Mr E. Hooper. Trophies won during the past year were presented as follow: — For attendance at Town Hall, F. Boyle 1, A. E. Wilton 2, J. Stewart 3; Foresters' Hall, F. Boyle; five years' medal, R. Russell; three, years' certificate, F. J. Robbins. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought to a close a most successful gathering.
