KNOX SUNDAY SCHOOL.

ANNUAL HEPORT

The annual report of the Knox Sunday School states, inter alia.: — The attendance, on the whole, although not quite equalling last year's record, has been good. Comparing the figures, we find that the general 'average has dropped from 78J per cent to 72 per cent. The senior branch is responsible for this decline, having receded 3i per cent, whilst, on the other hand, the infants have improved 1 per cent. Our total roll average works out at 146 scholars, with an average attendance of 10-5. With the exception of an additional teacher — viz., Miss Bland (now in charge- of the senior boys' class) —our staff is constituted by t-ho same band of faithful workers as last- year, who, with untiring zeal and enthusiasm, have prosecuted their labours amongst the young in a manner worthy of -the highest praise. Wo desire to express our appreciation of the services of Mrs Watson and Miss Daggett whilst on the teaching staff, the latter having left us to strengthen the Lansdowne branch. In July last the usual Wellington Sunday School Union and General Assembly examinations were held. It is gratifying to note the increased interest shown and the results attained by the scholars who entered, and the results achieved reflect great credit upon the teachers for their painstaking efforts and indicating in several instances the apparent full-hearted co-operation of the parents. It is also pleasing to note a decided improvement in the annual prize list, which speaks for itself. Nine pupils were successful in winning the Robert Ra ikes' Diploma (including three who also won it last year), having secured the required 95 per cent, (or over) of maximum)' marks obtainable upon the year's work. Our annual picnic was so successful that we have, this year, been able to open a special picnic account with a credit balance of £2 16s 4d. The Library. —This is the weak spot of the school jequiring immediate attention. The books which go to form this item are for the most part .old and unsuitable as reading matter for children, and we therefore appeal to parents and friends for assistance necessary to mako the library better suited for the purpose for which * it stands. Wo have a total credit balance of £6 7s 7d. The thanks of the school are due, to Miss McLachlan for the time and energy she has devoted to the absentee problem, to Mr R. J.. Young for his ever ready helping hand in the musical portion, for Mr A. D. 1 Low for acting as auditor, and to all others who have assisted in any way by promoting the progress of the school. In reviewing last year's results generally, we have reason to congratulate ourselves upon having accomplished much good work, and we look forward into the year before us with confident hope, anticipating still better results, and trusting to receive the hearty co-operation of all parents and friends, whom we urge to specially remember the Sunday School cause in their petitions to the Master, and to give all possible;aid and encouragement to those earnest workers who devote so much time and thought to the duty of guiding the children into the folds of His kingdom. In closing we desire to express our deep .sorrow at the demise of the late/Mr Robert Johnstone, who, whilst on our staff some years ago, rendered loyal service to the school, and cur hearts go out in sympathy to these Who to-day mourn their loss.
