CONFERENCE OF WORKERS

BRISBANE, August 9. An inter-state conference of reprosentatives from the Seamen's Union, Waterside Workers; Marino Institut3 of Engineers, Merchant Service Guild, Storemen's Union, Coal Lumpers' Union, Australian Federation of Labour, and the Australian Workers' Association has opened to cousi'ler the sugar workers' strike. The conference sat all day, and the Press was not admitted. It was decided to- forward letters 'o the State Treasurer and the Secretary of the Australian Sugar Producers' Association, asking them to confer with representatives from the conference, with a view to n. oossible settlement of tho strike. They also asked for a reply not later than Thursday afternoon, so that a joint Conference could be held not later than Friday. The Conference adjourned until tomorrow to await a reply.
