Mrs R. G. Shaw has returned to Feil-Jiuf; after undergoing nn operation in a Mastertan private hospital. Mr R. B. Ross,' M.P., has been elected a member of the Hawke's Bay Education Board. Mr A. v Snowball. intends relinquis'iing his duties as general secretary of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. in about two or three weeks' time. ' The death occurred at Gisborne'yesterday afternoon of Mr A. F. Kennedy, manager of the firm of Messrs Williams and Kettle. Mr Kennedy was a prominent townsman. Mr F. B. Knyvett, formerly captain of -'iheGarrisoii Artillery at Auckland, left for Sydney on Monday with Mrs Knyvett-.. The late Mr Arthur Jury, who; died suddenly at Featherston on.Saturday, was fifty-nine years of age, and prior to settling there some two years ag >, resided at Woodend, near Kaiapoi. Albert Strawbridge, who was injured nearly a year ago at the Steeple • Chase meeting in Otaki, since when h(i. has been in the Otaki Hospital, died yesterday morning, aged 36. Deceased, who was well-known in the Wairarapa, Was popular and prominent m promoting hunting. He leaves a widow and young family. An old resident of Palmerston, and a still older colonist, lias* been removed by the death of Mrs Matilda Mount Weekes, which occurred at her residence yesterday morning. The ieceased lady,, who had reached the advanced age of eighty-four years, came to New Zealand in 1857, in the sailing ship Solent, landing at Lyttelton.
