DUTY ON FOODSTUFFS.
Mr A. W. Hogg has not a thousand-to-oma chance of getting through Parliament Ms Bill providing for the' removal of, the duty from flour, wheat, potatoes, butter, etc. He will do a good service, however, jby drawing attention to the crushing disabilities from which Hieads of families isnffer under the cruel tariff imposition. If he can iriduce Parliament, to .review the whole system of Protection, 'wMch he has Mmself, unhapipily, played a not unimportant part .in building up, he will deserve well of Ms constituents. Protection is run mad in this country, the only persons to benefit by it being the middleman and the isipendthrift Government.
