THE FINANCIAL DEBATE.

WELLINGTON, Last .Night

Nearly the whole of .yesterday's.sittings' of the Legislative Council .and the House of Representatives were occupied with the debate >on,.the Address-in-Reply. In the Council, the speakers were the Hon. W. W. McCardle .and J. liigg. The latter referred vto. the discourtesy with which the .Council had been treated in regard to.invitations to attend the Coronation. In the House of Representatives, the Speaker was directed-totissue the writ for the Christehurch.North, election. In answer to Mr -Fisher, -the Acting-Prime Minister said it was rather premature to say whether the House would be given an opportunity of discussing the report of the Representation Commission. Speeches, on the Address-in-Reply .debate were given by Messrs McDonald, Lawry, Poole, Luke, and E. Taylor. Mr Poole strongly condemned the acceptance of the hereditary i title by. the Prime Minister, and Mr Luke criticised the action of Sir Joseph .Ward* in withholding liis- Conference <suggestions until he got to Sydney. The House rose at 10.35 p.m.
