A QUESTION OF NURSES.

IN THE WAIRARAPA DISTRICT.

At the meeting of the Wjairarapa Hospital aoid Charitable Aid Board in Masterton yesterday, tlie Inspec-tor-General of Hospitals wrote that recently, through an accident to her staff nurse, the matron of the Greytowai Hospital had been left with eight patients and no assistance in nursing them. At the same time there were only seventeen patientsi in the-Masterton-'Hospital," with a staff of ten sister® and nurses, besides the matron. Dr Valintine pointed out that it would be of great advantage if arrangements' could be made for a staff of nurses large enough to provide the requisite num'ber for each institution'; but as rejigardsi the probationer nurses, all should be attached.-to--the main hos-, pital and sent from that hospital for' a limited period to take duty at the smaller ones. Di- Vaiintine also suggested that the probationers should all be received at the Masterton. Hospital for their three months' trial, and that, after they have been definitely accepted for training, a junior and a senior nurse should be sent on, duty for about three months at a time to other hospitals. It wtos quite likely, he said, that if very busy in one, the work, may be Black i%'a<n«tiher,'.and therofore; extra help yaauJd /easily Tie" sent when • lieeded. Suggestions in regard to lectures to probationers were also given. ; ~,.M r Cameron, ent such, as that which had- ocoairred. iat J.was'■•-Hot- -Jifcely ■' to- - recur. After some littki discussion;, it was decided, oii tlie motion of Mr Murray Jackson, that the comimuni- ' cation from Dr Valn/faine be referred to the different Hospital Committees for their opinion.
