The evidence' showed that the defendant painted' a card giving a bookmaker's odds -regar ."Jig the Grand ; fraitional Steeplechase, Grand Niational Hurdles, and Win :er Cup. Mr Oassidy, for the defendant, at, the hearing of the case, cited tbo case of Banuett v. Bishop, known as tihe "Daylight Case." The Court ch tdia-t .occasion, held that it was :v*t illegal ifco print racing inf H , w;.a-tiott uiiulessi some person or Club was mentioned ami the publication card. Thiat printed by Wildey did not conoeain, tine name of the person, for wihoan it was prinited. In giving his decision, the Magistrate said that •fehe present case w,as clearly. distinguiiahable from the ease of Banwtt t. Bishop, iand he intended to convict Hie defendant. He understood that the Inspector of Polioe, am his capacity of Justice of the Peace, demanded the production of a duplicate copy lof the card, a printer being bound (by law to keep a duplicate copy of evea-ytbimg be printed. Why was it not produced on demand ? Mr Casisidy replied' that ho did not know. He had no informiation. on that point. The Magistrate: "Very well; tilie defendant is fimsd £lO and costs." ■"' '
