The member for Mja,siterton (Mr A. W. Hogg) ha's given notiiice of Ms intention' to introduce a Bill providing for .u© abolition of customs duties on food. Though there As very little .prospect of such a deba.tea.ble .measure' passing ite second reading in. the present session of Parliament, the introduction' of the Bail wall ■afford mem,hers an opportunity of declaying their position on. a. question which is intimately ' associated with the welfare, of the masses. There is a growing feeling in the- Dominion that .the Customs duties inflict nnnecesisary hardships upon the people, and 'are largely em,ployed to fatten the iiniiddleimaxi and to protect the operations of trusts and combines. iA revision, of the tariff in the direction of lightening the .burden® of heads of families is bound to come sooner or later. -
