SLIPS BLOCK THE RAILWAYS
TELEGRAPH COMMUNICATION INTERRUPTED.

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The Midland line was rather severely affected by the recent; storms, a number of slips and washouts between Otarama and The Cass causing anxiety.'. . ■ ; It was reported this morning that the slips between Otarama and Broken River had been cleared away, and] that the train which left Christchurch at 8.80 a.m. would get thorough to the old Broken River terminus. The line between Broken River and The Cass is at present blocked, but large gangs of men are working on it, und»r the direction of ■ the District Engineer (Mr C. Bisß||. , ~ It is anticipated hmti the line will be "cleared to-morrow ,«£ that the train from The Cass to Christchurch will get through all right. Communication had been maintained on the north, although repairs had to be made in several weak places. The motor service to Hamner is suspended in the meantime.
