FAILING TO REGISTER.
WEjLjjINGTON, Last Night. Edward Drummer, aged 14, was charged to-day with having failed to enrol as a. senior cadet under the Defence regulations. The boy's father stated that his son acted ok his instructions. He objected to militarism on principle, and asked that the fine should be .small. The Magistrate said thai he had nothing to consider beyond the fact that the (boy had failed to register. He imposed a fine of £2 and coats, and advised the father to let his son register to save a further prosecution.
FATAL COLLIERY ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN, Last Night. .Tames Walker was killed by a fall of ooal at- iFreeman's Colliery, Green Island, last night. He <was married, with one child.
THE CAME OF "SNOOKER."
WELLINGTON, Last Nght. In the case Scott v. Jackson, heard at the sitting of the Appeal Court, the appeal has been allowed, and rtlie conviction quashed. By this decision, the Court lays down that "sinooker" and other pool games, though containing an element of chance, are merely games, of skill, and are not games of chance within the meaning of the Gaming Act.
DESERTINC SEAMEN. NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. The captain, of the ibsrque Margit. now discharging; cargo from Liverpool ait. the breakwater, reports that five of the crew have descried. Three are Norwegians and one a Pane. All are under twenty-one years of age. A reward is offerer] for their apprehension.
