ITS FIFTIETH DAY,
ARGUMENTS CONTINUED
(Received Last Night, 9.25 o'clock.)
SYDNEY, July 18. The Vend Case has reached its fiftieth day. Mr Campbell continued his address on behalf of the Brown Company. This was the third day of his address. He considered the practice of sharing trade amoj.gst the owners was not objectionable. To. act in such a manner did not restrict trade. His Honor said that some mines were able to produce-coal at a cheaper rate than others. Therefore, they could supply cheaper. Mr Campbell admitted that the Maitland mines produced coal cheaper than those at Newcastle. The Maitland mines could also supply the whole demand. That however, would mean closing the Newcastle mines. Continuing, he said the agreement between the mine-owners and Shipping Companies was justifiable, ensuring the latter a continuity of supplies, and preventing unjust cutting.
