MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Masterton Borough Council was held last night, there being present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J: M. Coradine), Crs H. J. O'Leary, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, W. Candy, W. Pragnell, J. C Ewington, J. Prentice and A. Donald.

Accounts amounting to £2197 7s 9d were passed for payment. The .Town Clerk reported having made inquiries, in accordance with a request from Cr Prentice at last meeting, concerning the price of the land required to make a roadway through from Essex Street to Renall Street. That facing Renall Street could be purchased for £l4O, and that fronting Essex Street for £l5O, but there was a probability that the latter price would be reuueed.—The Councillors generally did not favour the formation of the road, and, as no motion was tabled, the matter was dropped. The architect submitted a finished plan of .the proposed Coronation Hall to be erected in the Park.— The plan was passed, and the Town Clerk was instructed to forward it to the Minister Of Internal Affairs, with a request for a subsidy. Cr Hoar moved that the Engineer report on the cost of forming a footpath on the school side of Victoria Street.— The motion was carried.

Cr O'Leary drew attention to the bad condition of the footpath in Dixon Street, south of Smith Street. Cr Elliott said that tne footpath on the side of Worksop Road also needed attention.

The fooltpath on River Road wa3 reported by Cr Donald +~ be covered with gorse, and he askcd that it be cleared off.

The Engineer was instructed to report on the position in regard to the footpaths' mentioned.
