PRICE OF BUTTER.
Is there a earner in butter in New Zealand:' That is a question which is being asked in all directions just now. The (factory -season is hardly ended when the i>riee of butter is forced up to Is 6d per pound. It may be true that there is a shortage in the Dominion. On that (point, opinions differ. One would have thought that the merchants, with their proverbial (business' sagacity, would have made provision against such ia contingency. It is not pleasant to reflect that, wliile New Zealand ibutter is selling -at 108s per cwt. in the English market—or at less than one 'shilling per pound—a charge of Is 6d per lb .should (be made for the same article at our very doors. There is something wrong somewhere.
