MASTERTON RACING CLUB.
ADJOURNED MEETING. | The adjourned meeting of the Masi terton Racing Club was held on SatI urday afternoon, there being pregJ <--t.—Messrs C. F, VftUance (chairJ man), J, ,M aca ra, J. Yntes,, R, i Buick, J. lorns, W. Jorns, F, E, I Dorset, D. McLachlan, A. G. PH-ir-v, W. Cooper, Bennett, and Welch. An apology for absence wa3 J received from Mr J. B. Moodie. I The Chairman stated that delegatI es from the local Club had met delei gates from the Taratahi Club, and the latter had stated emphatically that they would not join and race at Opaki. If they could not race at Taratahi they would wind up the Club. He suggested a one day meeting for Opaki. Mr Piltner said that it had been suggested that a one day meeting at Opaki would not pay. He instanced the Ashhurst one-day- meeting, and stated that there.was no reason why the Masterton Club should not attempt to hold a one day meeting. Mr Macara said only one member had suggested that one day would be unprofitable. He himself was very much in favour of a one-day meeting, which he thought would pay admirably. Mr Yates also favoured sticking to their one day. He suggested having the day fixed as near as possible to the day for the Taratahi meeting, so that horses from a distance would only have to travel once. Mr Cooper moved that application be mad© for the 9th of November, failing which the 16th be asked for. ■ A telephone message was> received at this stage from the Taratahi-Car-terton. Club, stating that they had applied for Boxing Day only, as it was felt that if they did not get that | day they would be set back to their old date, November 9th. The Masterton Club's plan should therefore j be to apply for November 9th, and in the alternative November 16th. The Taratahi Club could apply for Boxing Day, and in the alternative November 9th, as it would weaken | their position, hut the Masterton Club wasi not in the same position, as they did not have either the 9th or the 16th formerly. Mr Cooper added to his motion, that application be made for March 28th a.ud 29th for the autumn meeting. Mr Yates seconded the. motion 7 The motion was carried. Mr Pilmer brought up the matter of carrying out the improvements which had been suggested some time ago at. a cost of £2500. He urged that the work was a necessity, and suggested that the town be canv-rs-ed with a debenture last. Mr Vallance said it- was a matior that had to be faeed. He volunteer^ ed to take £IOO worth of debentures. It was decided t otake steps as suggested by Mr Pilmer. A committee consisting of-Messrs J. lorns, J. B. Moodie, Yates, McLachlan, E. G. Eton, and A. Hen-, dersou was appointed to canvass the . town.
