THE RACING DEADLOCK.

It is very much to he regretted that i.!:e Maaterton and TarataH-Carter-ton Racing Clubs have not been able to arrive at a compromise which will accord ;with the recommendation of the Racing Commission. The Commission! is itself largely to blame ifor the situation which has arisen. If it considered that the whole of the racing in the North Wairarapa isihould be held at -Masterton, it should have withdrawn the permits from the Taratah.i-Oarte.rton Club entirely, as it did in the oa.se of the Lower Valley and Pahiatua. Having conceded the right to race ai Oartertori, it is hardly reasonable to suppose that the Carterton people will forfeit this right entirely.
