A COMPENSATION CASE.
CLAIM AGAINST COUNTY COUNCIL. ~ JUIX3MENT FOE CLAIMANT. A case was heard before the Arbitration Court in Wellington last week, in. wibicJi Messrs D. H. Speedy and F. W. Groves, as executors of •the late Mr A. McHutchon, of Wihafcatakd, claimed -a sum of £SOO as compensation for tihe death of Mir . MoHhitdhon., from the Castlepoint County Council, by whom he was employed as County Clerk, Road Overseer, Rat© Collector aind Treasurer. > The claimants contended that tihe ( accident which caused the death of Mr MoHutcihon arose out of, and in the course of his employment as a road overseer. The defence was a denial that, at the time of the accident, the deceased was engaged in. his employment. Mr Justice Sim, President of the Arbitration .Court, yesterday delivered judgment, upholding the content - tdon, of the claimants, and awarding £SOO compensation for death, and£2o funeral expenses (as provided by the Act), with £ls 15s costs and witnesses' expenses. - Mr Jordan- (of Gawith and Logan) of Mastertoni, appeared, for the claimants at "the hearing of tihe case, and Mr E. B. Brown for the respondent Council.
