The 'Masterton .seniors will pro-i bably forfeit to Carterton. Post and Telegraph is. now the only team that lias a possibility oi wrestdng the championship honours from the redoubtable Carterton seniors. Bait the black and yellows have tto tread a hard path 'before they meet Carterton. The "hard path" is the St. Matthew's seniors, who will -play P- *""* T - tonmorrow. Should P. and T. defeat St. Matthew's .they will still he two points beliind Carterton. To win the championship they will (have to defeat the j southerners- on Thursday week, and again wflien they play off. Mr S. Inder has generously donated £1 Is to the fund® of the Wairarapa Hockey Association. The Wadrarapa Hockey Association will require to appoint somebody to fill the vacancy on .the management committee caused by the departure of the Rev. W. Raine. St. Matthew's will meet Excelsior, holders of the Pearson Challenge Cup, on the first available Thursday j afternoon after the completion of the championship competitions. Mamawatu defeated Oiroua ..1 a representative match on Saturday last. Steps.are to be taken to frrm a Referees' Association in the Waira.rapa, and it is hoped that : ext season two referees will be available »"i' each senior match. This is a ihw idea, and ought to prove v< ly successful. Each referee controls the gam© when it dis on his side of the half line. The Auckland Reflexes' Association wrote to the N.Z K R A.., asking for a ruling on a point which occurred in a match where the goalkeepers' saving stroke rebounded into the net off the hacK of an attacker. The N.Z.H.R.A. r<ihd that it was a case of "kno'ik on." ' In answer to Wanganui, ;t was iuhd that from a- corner hit the haU must be 'stopped dead befo.-e a shot at goal is made. The inteilion of the penalty is clearly to do away with the danger from a flying shot. If the player to wham the ball is €1 st sent hits without, stopping the ball, the referee must use his discretion a® to whether it is a shot or a, pass.
