A Greymouth telegram states tlwt Mr Crookes, S.M., was given a hearty send-off from that town. Mr'Brittain, formerly a Stuck Inspector in this district, is at present on a visit to Masterton. Mrs James Archer, of Masterton, who has beeu on a visit to Welling ton, returned home yaiterday. At Wairoa last week, Mr Arthur Poyzer was' married a> Miss lister Cruick hank, of ■ Eketahuna. Tlie death occurred on Sunday of Mr Thomas Ba-bone, who has been a resident of Woodville for the past fifteen years. The deceased was 5/* years of age. Mr J. J Pilkington, who is rcii.ing from the service of the Wellington Education Board on superannuation, was entertained by the people of Porirua at a farewell social on Friday last. Mr Pilkington joined the yeryice of the Board in 1874. He was in charge of the Masterton public /school at the latter end of the seventies, and was subsequently sti tioned at the Lower Taueru. Mr A. H.. Vile will present the Coronation medals to the children of the Ballance school I>his morning, and of the Pahiatua High School this afternoon. The death took place suddenly on Saturday of Mr Dan McFarlane, a well-known and highly-respected settler of Koputaroa. Tlie deceased was a single man, aged 65 years, and it is believed that the cause of death was due to heart failure. Mr McFarlane had been a resident of the district for some twenty years. The death is announced of Mrs W. H. Trimble, the wife of the librarian of the Hocken Library. She passed away at Auckland, where she ha? been enjoying a holiday. The late Mrs Trimble was herself a very capable journalist, and her connection with letter's was not confined to the daily press, for she was a - valued contributor to the pages of the Atlantic Monthly.
