DEATH OF NIREAHA TAMAKI.
A WELL-KNOWN MAORI CHIEF. New® was .'received in Masterton yesterday of the death at Hamua of . Nireaha Tamaki, a well-known and highly-respected chief of the Ngati—kahungunu tribe. The deceased,. I who was iseventy-five years of age, ( was- a large property-holder in the Forty-Mile Bush. His home was at Hamua, where die had recently erected a fine new residence. The district of Nireaha was named after him. The deceased., who had several wives and a large family, was a splendid type of the aboriginal. For some time he -was Advisory Counsellor to the Biougokokako Maori Council. -, J Has remains will probably "be interred . at Hamua, where a monster "tangi" I wall >be held.
