WELLINGTON, Last Night. ,-.■ Mr Duncan MeMurridh, marine i superintendent in Wellington for the Union Steamship Company, was, killed by a tram-caar to-night.* He and his wife were crossing the street near the coraier of ' Jervois Quay and Street, :: not, Noticing that a car' was coming near them. Tho motorman, seeing them, rang the alarm, bell. McMturricli and his wife hesitated. Then the former wpnt forward, and attempted .... to; pull his. wife with him, apparently thinking there was time to.cross before the car reached the spot. McMurrich, however, was knocked down, and when taken off th« lifeguard it was found that his skull was fractured, death having been practically instantaneoue., Deceas'ed, who'was 57 years of age, had been many years in the- service of the Uinion Company. He came from Scotland in the old Rotor.ua, and afterwards* was employed on a.number of the Company's steamers, lastly as Chief Engineer of the Mararoa. Some fourteen years ago he was made Wellington, superintendent. He leaves a widow, five sons and six daughters.
