The death is announced of Colonel Tom Price, who commanded the Victorian Mounted Rifles in the Boer War, and was afterwards Commandant of the Victorian Forces until his retirement in 1904; The late Colonel was a son of John Price, who was supposed to be the original "Maurice Frere," in Marcus Charles' "Term of His Natural Life." He was ultimately murdered by the convicts, ten being executed for the crime. The late Colonel Price made himself notorious over the alleged order to the troops, during the maritime strike, to "fire low and Jay 'em out!"
