NATIVE LANDS.
Mr C. Witty, M.P., says that all the native land should not 'be sold, and if ever the Maoris are aibsorbed it should he by inter-marriage with Europeans, but to .sell their lands and leave them penniless is robbery. "Who suggested that the Native lands should be sold and the Natives left penniless? Certainly, no memiber of the Opposition party. If the sugjgestion has been made at all, it has come from one or other of the party with which Mr Witty is identified. To talk of the absorption of the Maoris by inter-marriage with Europeans before dealing -with, their lands is to supply a powerful argument for the overthrow of a party which would make such a foolish suggestion. The exigencies of settlement require that the Native lands shall he dealt with as speedily as possible.
