WHOLESALE LICENSE REFUSED WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Wellington Licensing Committee has refused a renewal of a 'wholesale license to A. E. Schultz on the ground: (1) That the licensee had sold quantities of liquor of less than two gallons at one time to one person; (2) That u..e licensee had supplied liquor in large quantities to a person convicted of selling liquor without a license, and had not kep' a record of these sales in his Docks. Tlhe license consequently terminates on June 30th (next Friday). The Committee was unanimous in its decision. PAHIATUA RACING CLUB. THE COMMISSION'S REPORT PAHIATUA, Last Night. A meeting of the Babiatua Racing Club was held last night, to consider the recommendation of the Raoing Commission that no totalisato'r • license • be issued to Pahiatua. Strong protests were made by members of the Club at Pahiatua being deprived of its meeting, while smaller centres are allowed to retain theirs. Stress was laid on -the fact that the Club possesses one of the best and safest, freehold" courses in New Zealand, and that a lot of money has been, spent on it. 'lll© meeting resolved to confer with the Woodville Club, with which Pahiatua was recommended to coalesce, in order to see if arrangements could be made to hold one meeting a year at Pahiatua, and one at- Woodville. A SAD DfcATH. CHRISTOHUOEtOH, Last Night. A sad death occurred at Sydenham this morning, Mrs Schulz, of Dudley Street, Addington, being found drowned in Jackson's Greek. Mrs Schulz, who was expecting confinement, was. residing with her sister, Mrs Blythe. At 6.3*0 a.m. to-day Mrs Schulz was seen in her room, and then appeared to be in her usual health and spirits, but at seven o'clock she was massed. On a search being made, a cQiiarr was discovered against the back yard fence, on the other side of which is Jackson's Creek. Mrs ; Schukj. was found lyjng face downwards in tlie creek "in' about four or five,inches of water. She was then quite dead. At,the,in-. quest .'a, yiea^dict'■ was returned'that deceased was found drowned, ' but there was no evidence to show how she actually got into the water.
