Mr W. Preston, an erstwhile Masterton resident, is at present on a visit here from the Waikato. Mrs S. C. Ivens, of Carterton, is at present very seriously ill with pleurisy; and pneumonia, at Wellington. Mr C. Bently Russell, who is playing Clement Hale in Sweet Lavender, leaver Wellington on Friday week on a world tour embracing China and Japan. Captain White, of the New Zealand Defence Forces, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Mr Arthur Morton, of Egmont Vili lage, has been unanimously elected i chairman of directors of the National Dairy Association. The Hon J. A. Millar (Minister of Railways), who has had to stay in doors owing to trouble with one knee, is progressing favourably, but will not be able to r;et, about for a few days. Meanwhile, he is transacting urgent business at his residence. The death is announced of ex-In-I spector Buckley, of the New Zealand | police force Deceased, after serving jin the Canterbury provincial police, reached the rank of Inspector at Invercargill. He retired about 20 years ago, and hnd since followed farming pursuits at Hook, South Canterbury, where his death occurred. Mr M. J Mack, general secretary of ) the Amalgamated Society of Railway ; i Servants, was' unanimously accepted Jas the Labour party's candidate for. Parnell at the general elections, at a j meeting of the Auckland branch of the Labour party. •j Mr C. N. Baeyertz, editor of the j Triad, Wellington, who has a reputaItion as a judge of elocution, has kind ly consented to act as judge of the elocutionary classes at the forthcoming competitions in Masterton. Mr Baeyertz will be accompanied by Mrs . Baeyertz, and they will be the guests J of the Rev. A. and Mrs Hodge, during their visit to ifc* town. Colonel R. J. Collins, on whom the honour of Companion, of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.), has been, conferred by the King, will complete forty-six years' service on July 1 next. He was connected with the Treasury for thirty-two years as chief clerk and accountant, and subsequently as feec-; retary, paymaster-general, and receiv-'en-peneral. He was promoted to his position of Controller and AuditorGeneral in February, 1910. A quiet wedding took place in Mas- \ terton on Monday, when Mr W. C. Coulter, of the staff of Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and Miss Olivia M. Richardson were united in the bonds of matrimony. The ceremony took place at the residence of the bride's mother, Bannister Street, and was conducted by the R,ev. A. T. Thompson, 8.A., B.D. Miss J. McHattie acted a£ bridesmaid, and Mr H. M, Harvey, of Eketahuna, bestman.
