GOODNESS v. GOODY-GOODY-NESS. After the Y.M.C.A. Bible Class in Masterton yesterday afternoon-, a.t yhjeh the Rev. J. E. Parsons gave an- address on "The Writers of the New Testament," the Strangers}' Tea was held. Mr D. Threadwjell'l presided • oyer the tea, and Mr O. PragnielJ was the speaker, his. subject being "Goodness v. . GoodyGoodyineis®. In every home, church, religious and othler institution there was, Ike said, to be found two- types of people—a, .class that took things seriously, whose goodness was composed of certain good qualities added to faces like* unto that of the fiddle, and a -class that took things seriously, ibut were theessence of gentleness, and goodness, and cheerfulness.. 'ForwinisitiaMce, -■■•;. m Hie church there were .some folk to >whom one would *go for coanpainianship, while there were others one wuld avoid; Goodness lay in the heart, and.not, so much in'the church or (the home, and was a quality that would find its surface. However good, there was an element of badness in every man, and the .' world was apt to taJk© a wrong measure of the man -who was generally looked upon as a good miain. The -world was at faailt when it judged a. main bad, because of one act out of 999 good ones, and was oaigerly anxious and ever alert to praise the good deed of the. bad man, and ready to forget the 999 bad deeds of that same individual. The speaker how illogical this argument wa&. Every goodygoody (person was not at all times to be dubhed bad. Indeed they were good, however straight-laced; but made use of misapplied goodness. Mir Pragnel'l showed the danger te their own cause that these people were, and ended by' appealing to the* members present to be manly, straight, cheerful, and bright and hiejjtful to those about them. Votes of thanks, were accorded the speaker and ladies of the Congregational Church, who had provided refreshments, a. vote of .sympathy also being expressed to three members in the Hospital, Messrs Donald, Ibbetson, aind Thomson.
