RUSSIAN SCANDAL

EXTORTION AND BRIBERY. ARMY OFFICERS IMPLICATED. (Received Last Night, 6.5 o'clock.) ST. PETERSBURG, June 14. The trial of the two Generals, 211 Colonels, 2-S Captains, and four State Councillors of the Moscow Supply Department, on charges of extortion and bribe-taking, is proceeding. It is alleged that one of the accused received £27,000, and it is calculated that one firm, during a period of twenty-five vears, has been paid £2,000,000 in bribes. The indictment charges the Department with accepting soldiers' boots of inferior quality. The soldiers sold the boots, which the contractors acquired, and re-delivered to the Department. It is also alleged that clerks deliberately spoiled the samples of firms which did not give bribes.
