POST AND TELEGRAPH MATCH. MASTERTON v. WELLINGTON. 'This match. wtas played at Karori mi Coronation Day. Neitter team was. able to put its full, strength in the field. Wellington was particularly .tafortuniate in this respect, and felt the meed of a reliable goalkeeper. Master ton'.s fullibacks did Bot pky up ito their usual .standard either. The weakness of the backs no doubt ■contributed to the big scoring, 14 goals altogether being Both teams had a fast -set of forwards, the Masterton .pack having better -combination, and indulging in.tsome fine open passing rashes. Both packs, however, were inclined io bunch too much at time®. The *■ game opened quietly with give and take play in the centre of , the :ground, tout Wellington broke away 3/ and carried the- ball to the circle, where from a cross bit the ball glanced off Williams' body to the .goal. More central play followed -with an attack by v Masterton that failed, and then Wellington .forwards took the ball from the centre to the circle and scored again. Masterton seemed to wake up now, and played much better, making repeated rush■es for tlie circle. As a result of one <rf these -sallies Wellington was penalised by a penalty bully. Loader had no "trouble in scoring a goal therefrom. Soon, after R. Williams shot a isecond goal, equalising matters. An attack by Wellington was foiled by good play by N. Williams, and soon after Miller, in goal, saved, but allowed a corner. The ball came down the field, and Wellington were •soon on the defensive- again, .Jack-' son driving home the attack with a pretty goal. The second spell was practically a repetition of the first—attack and counter .attack, fast and ■interesting to watch/ Loader played ■ a grand game, and scored two goals in quick succession. Then Wellington took 1 a hand, and attacked strongly, beating the Masterton full backs by clever passing, and shot a good goal. Wellington kept up the attack, and soon after, through faulty play by the Masterton backs, scored another goal. Central play followed; then Loader took the ball Tight fhrongh, and scored for Masterton. Jackson shortly afterwards added another, for which he dived for a final touch. Loader and Jackson again scored, and then Wellington, from a good combined rush, scored their final goal, the game ending shortly afterwards. - v The final scores were: Masterton 9, Wellington 5. For Masterton, Richards, R. Williams, Jackson and Loader played good games in the forwards, while "iJddy, Minogue, and N. Wii.Hia.ms were the jrick of the .backs. Cameron and Hoskins played good games fox Wellington.
