The Bunedin Star, which is a staunch Government supporter, in concluding an article in its issue of Tuesday last concerning the execution of Kaka, says: "If the boasted Ii humanitarian progress of New Zealand is not to be regarded as, a mere figure of speech, without relation to fact and conduct, even now; at the eleventh hour, there will be such an unmistakable manifestation of populair sentiment—may, of popular resolve—as will yet avert tiljis national dishonour. If all should be in vain, then let us hear no more-of i 'God's Own Oounti;y.' " *
