THE COOK ISLANDS.
The Chief justice and Mr Walde- : grave- have gone to the Cook Islands to investigate certain complaints concerning the administration of affairs inf those islands. The Chief Justice decided, on his. arrival, that he would exclude the Press from the enquiry. The public is therefore y to be kept (in the d,ark concerning alleged grievances until Sir Robert Stout makes his report. There is little wonder that those interested in itChe enquiry lha,vie (refrained from giving evidenoe. The "star chamber" method of conducting business will riot appeal to .the Gook Islanders anymore than At appeals to the average New Zealander.
