MASTERTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of tifre committee of tlio Maistertan Horticultural Society was heild last night, there being present: Messrs J. Pryor (in tih,e chair), J. GaseSberg, G. W. SeUiar, J. Caotidy, #. R. Sykes, G. C. Summerell, M. R. Varnham, J. C. Alpaiss, Me&dames Pryor, 0. Smith, P. R. Cook, and Graham. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs H. T. Wood, and Messrs E. Hale and T. Dixon. ROSE AND SWEET PEA SHOW.
Mr Sellar moved that the Society hold a .summer show on or about the snime date as last vear.
Mr Summerell seconded the motion, whiicih wa-s can - Led.
The question of the excluding of hornet industries from the summer show arose.
Mr Gas&tberg stated that when the committee decided to hold a
■■ 11 tuner show it was not intended to include home industries. Sir Gaselberg moved 'i.lia.t tJie summer show be confined to (lowers,fruit and vegetables. Mr Sellar .second-ed the motion..
Mr Surrnnerel'l thought it would be a pity to out out the home industries if it would detract from the popularity of the show, ■but he added that it would not do to include classes that showed a loos. The motion was carried.
The president, vieo-presddeiits, Mrs 0. Smith, and Messrs T. Daxon and •T. Case! berg were appointed a committee to draft a schedule, and to report at next meeting.
It was decided to hold the summer show 011 same date about the middle of November. Mr Syjkes moved that in the event of there being three or iless entries in a class, only the first prize money be paid. Mr Varnham seconded the motion, which was carried. Qn the motion, of Mr Varnham, seconded by Mr Sella r, it was decided that the cottage garden competition be deleted from the programme. It was decided to change the title to the Rose and Sweet Pea Show. BULB EXHIBITION. The Chairman, stated that it had been suggested that a bulb exhibition be held under the Society's auspices. The function would be merely for an educational purpose. Members would be asked to exhibit bulbs, and Mr Booth, of Carterton; and Mr Hale, of Lmsdowne, would also make exhibits. The judge would classify the exhibits., and explain why the first 'pnizo- was given to a certain flower. N n prize money would be awarded. It was also proposed to have a paper written on the culture of bulbs. The exhibition would be solely (for the benefit of members. Mr Pryor moved that the secretary be instructed to arrange for a bulb exhibition, Mr Sykes seconded the motion. The suggestion was generally favoured, and the motion w.as carried. Mr Summereli moved that the afternoon be open to the public free of charge, and that in the evening the show be confined to members, who will have the privilege of inviting two friends each . Messrs Pryor and Sellar were appointed an advertising committee.
