Throe waggons of smuggled quickfirers and revolvers from Galicia were •seized at Virgo, but four waggons passed undetected. The Government has discovered a monarchist plot in South Portugal. Those arrested include Count Arinii and Dr. Abel Compos. SEAMEN'S STRIKE. SHIP PUTS BACK. DEMAND FOR HIGHER WAGES. (Received Monday, 9.40 a.m.) BERNE, Juno 18. The Lojh Torridon sailed, but returned, owing to the crew demanding an increase in wages. SPOR ADIC OUTBURSTS. (Received June 19, 9 a.m.) LONDON, June 18. The seamen's strike still manifests itself in .sporadic outbursts. Ship-owners are opposing the creation of a Conciliation Board, arguing that half of the Trade Unionists are already absent, and so cannot be consulted, whilst their presence is calculated to put undue power into the j hands of the Trades Union leaders. THE ANTARCTIC. THE FRAM'S EXPENSES. (Received June 19, 9.40 a.m.) CHRISTIANIA, June 18. Christoffersen, a Norwegian resident of Buenos Ayres, is defraying the cost of the provisioning and outfitting of the Fram, until Captain Amundsen's return to New Zealand and San Francisco. THE MAWSON EXPEDITION. (Received June 19. 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, June 18. Dr. Mawson is going to Paris to consult with the Prince of Monaco as to the best deep sea dredging gear. The Prince has already arranged for one of the scientific staff of the expedition to undergo training in the oceanographical laboratory at, Monaco. Dr. Mawson states that the Aurora will be dry-docked. She is a roomy ship, a little smaller than the Terra Nova. LIEUTENANT SHACKLETON. (Received June 19, 8.5 a.m.) BERLIN, June 18. The Kaiser has conferred the second class Order of the Crown on Lieut, Shackleton.
