- CUP COMPETITIONS. P. AND T. (2) v. EXCELSIOR (0), Post and Telegraph and Excelsior met for the third time this teason. The former tried hard to win in the two previous games, but were not successful." Yesterday's play was not anything like so brilliant as in, the other two, and although P. and T> won by two goals to nil, it would be hard to say which team had,the better of the game.. flSvery player appeared to be in very'bad form, and consequently the match was rather a slow one. With the exception of Ashley, the Excelsior forwards were very weak. Williams and Loader were the best I of the P. and T. forwards, but did I not play up to their usual form. Both back sections were also evidently having a day off. The goals for P. and T. were both obtained in the seconi spell. The first was a penalty goal awarded for a deliberate breach of the "rules in a player picking the ball out of a scramble and throwing it behind the line, thus preventing an almost certain goal. Diggins cleverly shot the second goal from the edge of the circle. ST. MATTHEW'S (3)~ v. CARTERTON (3). A very fast game between the above teams resulted in a draw, each team scoring three goals. St. Matthew's had it all their own way for the first few minutes of the game, ana it was not long before L. Boyd shot a goal. The home team were, in the forward section, undoubtedly superior to the visitors, and they gave the defending back a very hard time. Just before half time L. Boyd -shot an excellent goal from a corner hit. Fisher secured a goal for Carterton in the first spell. On the resumption of play after half-time, St. Matthew's forwards again attacked strongly, and a further goal was scored by Hatch. From this out Carterton began to liven up, and Reed scored two goals in quick succession. Hatch and Boyd played splendid games for the home j forwards, while N. Boyd was the pick of the backs. Morgan, playing goal for Carterton, as usual did good wCrk and lie was instrumental in saving several goals. i

The position of the senior teams in the competition are now as follow : Carterton 8 points, Excelsior and P*» and T. 6 points each, St. Matthew's 4 points, Ma&terton nil. WAIRARAPA v. POVERTY BAY.
