Mr R. B. Ross, M. P., of Pahiatua, is at present a visitor to Wellington.

The Hon. J. A. Millar returned to Wellington from Taranaki yester--day. Two old pioneer West Coasters died last week—Mr William Stewart, at Cobden, aged 87 years; and Mr George Howe, of No Town, at the Greymouth Hospital, aged 78 years. Mr J. Duncan, M.P., for Wairau, is expected as a visitor to Masterton to-day.

Professor Walter T. Mills, M.A., of Milwaukee, U.S.A., who delivers a lecture in Masterton this evening, arrived from the north last night.

Among the visitors to-Masterton at the present time is,Mr Arthur Bennett, who left this district some two years ago to follow sheep-farming in Queensland.

Mr W. H. Cruickshank, of Masterton, who has been on a visit to Sydney, returned to Masterton on Wednesday night. Mr M. Minogue, a well-known member of the T'almerstoh North Post Office staff, has been transferred to Masterton.

Miss Gray, of the Masterton Telephone' Exehange, is at present spending a holiday in Hastings. Mr W. H. L. Galwey, who has been manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Masterton for the last ten and a-half years, has received notice of his appointment to the position of manager at the Bank at Napier. He will be succeeded by Mr W. J. Hodgkins, at present manager of the Bank at Ashburton. , During the period he has been stationed in Masterton, Mr Galwey has taken a keen interest in a number of local institutions. For six or seven years he represented the Wairarapa' on the Council of the Wellington AclimatisatioH Society. He was also one of the promoters of the Masterton Golf Club, and a prominent member of the Masterton Cricket Club. Mr Galwey has also taken a keen interest in Church matters, and has done excellent service on St. Matthew's Vestry. The departure of Mr and Mrs Galwey will be sincerely regretted by a large section of the community. Their friends will he pleased to know, however, that Mr Galwey's transfer to Napier means a substantial promotion.
