SUNDAY IN SYDNEY.

FRUIT AND SOFT DRINK SHOPS. DEPUTATION TO A MINISTER. (Received Last Night, 9.35 o'clock.) SYDNEY, June 13. A deputation representing the Evangelical Council, asked the Hon. Mr Flowers to enforce the law closing fruit and soft drink shops on Sundays. One speaker suggested that they ought to go the whole way and stop all trains, trams, and boats. Mr Flowers, in promising Cabinet consideration of the request, said that personally he favoured the old-fash-ioned Sunday. The idea of a Puritan Sunday could not. however, be entertained to-day. The reaction in making such a by-law would be eo great that there was no knowing where it would stop. They must moderate. He saw no harm in providing facilities for people visiting seaside resorts obtaining reasonable refreshments. A Bill was being prepared providing that refreshment rooms within proclaimed areas might remain open for limited hours on Sunday.
