AUSTRALIAN BEEF WANTED

(Received Last Night, 9.55 o'clock.)

LONDON, June 13,

The Indian correspondent of the Daily Mail states that a monster petition is in circulation among the Hindus, for presentation at the Coronation durbar, praying His Majesty the King to direct that the supply of beef for the troops in India be obtained from Australia, instead of from local sources.

The Hindus, the correspondent says. are willing that a direct tax should be levied upon them to cover the cost of cold storage. He adds that the procuring of Australian beef would greatly benefit agriculture in India, and mentions that the price of plough bullocks has been doubled in recent years.
