TE WHARAU. A good deal of rain has fallen here--** during the past week, but from a farming point of view the weather lias been ideal. The Te Wharau Rifle Club helJ a successful shoot on Saturday la*t A good number of riflemen were present, and some good scoring was put up. Rifleman Kummer was top scorer with 99, several others being close up. Wild pigs are fairly plentiful in the district at present, and some splendid pork has been procured by sportsmen, while wild pigeons are also being shot in fair numbers. The Masterton-Te Wharau mail arrived very late on Tuesday, owing to the brake pole snapping off just as Mr Richards was leaving Master'on. Mr Lees will hold his fortmghrly wool class here on Monday, when a number of new members are expected to appear. Mr H. Dunn, of Victoria, who has of late been residing here, lias left for the Rocky Hills,.,where he expects to j do some prospecting. The latest innovation at Te Wharau [is a Club." Each member on his birthday entertains the rest of the members, and, not being a pnh:*bition district, these parties are generally highly coloured. Mr and Mrs T. Ridgeway, of M:rterton, are spending a short vae.itb t ,at ■■ c EAST MAURICEVILLE. The Mauriceville Hall Company held their annual plain and fancy dress ball on Friday last. Those, in charge of the function are to be complimented on the fine appearance of the decorations and supper tables. Mr C.
