THE ROYAL HAWAIIANS.

AT THE MASTERTON TOWN HALL

Masterton was exceedingly fortunate in securing a visit from the "Royal Hawaiians." The audience which assembled in the Town Hall on Saturday night was conducted into the "third heavens'' by the thrilling harmonies, the exquisite love-songs, the delightful choruses of the dark-skinned company from Hawaii. Seldom, if ever, has such a splendid combination of firstclass musicians visited the town. That every item on the lengthy programme should have been rapturously encored, and that some of the performers should have been called back as many as. four times is evidence of the complete manner in which the audience was captivated by the novel and enchanting music. The choruses were in themselves g€ms of melody, and were rendered with exquisite grace and perfect harmony. The guitar and mandolin accompaniments added considerably to the finish of the concerted numbers, whilst the instrumental items were a revelation in stringed music. Miss Koala, the soprano of the company, was in splendid voice, and rendered her two solos in finished style. Messrs L. Akana and T. J. Carter, who are each possessed of a tenor voice of > wide range and purity, became warm favourites with the audience, whilst the mezzos, baritones and bassos did splendid execution. The double quartette-! by male voices were especially meritorious, and the and guitar solos by Mr Ernest Kaii were enthusiastically received. The climax to an excellent entertainment was reached when Madames Anclulo and Eteh . performed the ancient "Hula" dance ' in costume, and with musical accompaniment. Should the "Royal Hawaiians" find an opportunity of re-vi=it-ing Masterton, they will be assurred an enthusiastic reception. '
