ORDER OF THE GARTER.
CONFERRED ON PRINCE OF WALES. AN IMPOSING.SPECTACLE. Received This Morning, 12.35 o'clock LONDON, June 11. The ceremony of investing the Prince of Wales with the Order of the Garter took place yesterday.' Knights a-nd Officers of the Order assembled at Waterloo Chamber. Thence they were summoned to the Throne Room, wilier© the King and Queen, King Manuel, the Duke of Con-naught, Prince Arthur of Oonnaught, and Prince Christian were seated at the head of the table. The scene was one of great'beauty. The King proceeded to buckle on') the Garter,, and the Prelate announ- j ced the customary ■admonition. -I The King having invested the Prince with the Insignia of the Order, gave him the accolade. Other Knights present congratulated the Prince, who bore himself , through the trying ordeal with dig- J nity. A procession to St. George's Chapel followed.
The Duke of Argyle and Lord Esher led, and the military, Knights of Windsor, twenty-three Knights' Companions, Heralds, and Officers of the Household moved in stately fashion between the double lines of lifeGuards, Heralds, and Coldstream Guards. Windsor Castle was crowded with spectators to witness the pageant, which has not been seen since the time of Charles 11. The Royal Knights accompanied the Prince. .'■ Four tiain bearers, clad in scarlet, held the robes of the King and Queen, who walkod hand in hand. Queen Mary was wearing-an insignia presented by the Marys of the Empire.
