MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.
ESTATE OF JOHN YOUNG. A meeting of creditors in the estate of John Young, labourer, of Masterfeon, was held in the Courthouse on Saturday morning last, the D.O.A. (Mr W. B. Chennells) presiding. Ma 1 Logan appeared for the debtor, and Mr Cuilen for two of the creditors. ; ' > Under examination, the bankrupt stated that he had been in Masterton for about three and a-half years, and had been in work excepting when laid up. He had been laid up for nrine weeks for an operation, and bad been incapacitated for work at various times before that. He had been working at the Cement Pipe Company's works at 8s per day, and was now getting 9s per day. He borrowed the money with which to file. He had no assets other {Jinan his furniture.! and had no prospects. To Mr (Mien: He did not tell Mr Lowndes he was earning- £3 per week. His wife was ill, and waiting to go into the Hospital. To Mr Logan: Has wife had a piano, which she wanted to sell to pay the debts. She offered it to Mr Lowndes for £35. He sold her an £BO piano, and allowed £3O for the old one. There was £6 owing on the ■old piano. He-lent his wife £lO to pay off the debt, and he gave a promissory note for the £lO. He paid off the amount owing, and the balance he.paid to a feLlow-workman, who 'had" lent hiim money. His wife paid the instalments on the new piano from money earned by herself. Mr Lowndes sued him on a' dishonoured promissory note and got judgment. He had nothing to do with the piano, which was his wife's transaction altogether.

Ait a meeting of" creditors in the estate of Frederick Benge, labourer, of Master-ton, bankrupt,.held on Saturday morning, the debtor, on oath, Stated that nioiie of his liabilities were for money borrowed. He was'm work now at £2 8s per week for the Borough Council. He was married, and had a family of six. He was owing his Faihiatua debts* when he came here. He had incurred no debts during the past twelve months, excepting for rent. His team was mortgaged for £45, and? realised £56. He could not make an offer. He had two orders against him for committal. His bicycle belonged to James Arnold, of Gttsbiome, wiho had lent it to him until he called for it. He came from the South Island about twenty yeans.ago....
