METHODIST SOCIAL.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. A most enjoyable social was given by tihe Masterton Methodist young ladies in the isehoolroom last night. The building was packed with a delighted audience, wlho were enthusiastic in their applause.' In the first part of the programme the performers were-very becomingly attired as Territorials, while in the second portion the Dutch costumes looked very quaint. Miss Jones, A.T.C.L., opened with a pianoforte solo. The choruses, ("Soldiers' Chorus," "Howe of Gfkxry," "Grandma," "Some Folk," "Pretty Flowers," "Jingle Bells," and "Good Night"), the solos in which were taken by Mrs A. Daniel! and Misses B. Joy and Williams, were very well rendered, and. were nearly all encored. A duet, "My Curly Headed Baby," was rendered by the Misses M. Darnell and D. Hollings (two little girls) in a pleasing manner. Miss Jackson sang "Lily of Lagun<a," and Miss Dorothy VHle gave a. recitation. The first part of the entertainment was concluded with some very clever skits about modern day costumes by several young ladies, of whom Misses Winteringham and Carpenter were remarkably clever. The company rendered; the chorus "Gretchen,"' while Mrs A. Daniell took the solo, and MEsses PragneU and Elliott recited "Gretchen." This item received the well-earned applause of the audience, who demanded an encore. The remainder of the evening was taken up with choruses, with the exception of a. recitation by Miss Daniell. which were thoroughly enjoyed. The takings were in aid of the .pipe organ fund, which should benefit considerably.
