WAIHI, Last Night
A cisis has arrived in connection with the demands made by the Miners' Union on the mining companies. The miners and the employers vove in conference yesterday for a consideiablo time, and the result was ma le known this morning T>y a written com immication from the companies .o .he Union.
Excepting a concession of c ~ <co>* ice per shift extra for surface labourer? now receiving 7s 6d, and one, nr two minor matters, every aemaii'l u'.-s I absolutely refused. A special meeting of the "aoi is called for this evening, to i?w:v? and consider the delegates' .'opart The increase in wages dem-mc'ed by the Union mean on an average about Is 6d per shift per man in all branches ! of mining and battery work. ' Thero is much anxiety in the Hwa l as to future developments. The trouble I involves about 2500 hands.
Semple. the organiser for the federation of Labour, is in Waihi, aud will attend the meeting to-night.
