The recommendations of the Oon- = filiation Council in the stationary •traction and locomotive engine drivers' dispute, in which four hundred •employers were cited in Wellington, Balmensiton North, Masterton, Wanganui, and Hawke'is Bay, provides "for a, week off forty-eight hours, exclusive of time oocupied in getting up steam. River engineers' hours'.shall not exceed sixty-three per week. Where the work requires the holder to possess a first-class certificate, the rate of -pay shall be 10s a day, and for a second-ctess "Certificate 9s a day. The minimum wage for firemen is 8s a day. River engineers shall receive not less than 70s per week. Owners of traction engines may contract with their men for .'payment at tonnage or piecework •rate. A preference clause is inserted, but it does not apply to employers whose business is beyond the radius of ten miles from the Welling-, "ton, Masterton.
