Mr and Mrs W. F: Hunt, of Rongomai, left yesterday on a month s holiday trip to Melbourne and Sydney.
The funeral of the late Dean Ginaty, S.M., Vicar-Generai of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Christchurch, took place yesterday, and was very largely attended. A eulogy of the deceased priest was delivered by His Grace Archbishop Redwood. Dr. F. L. Scott, of Dunedin, was yesterday appointed from twenty-one applicants to the position of Medical Superintendent of the Christohurch Hospital.
Captain J. B. Whyte, who has disposed of his farm at Ngaturi to take up his residence in the Waikato, is to be entertained at a smoke concert in Pahiatua prior to his departure.
A very pleasant afternoon tea was given at the Kia Ora tea-rooms in Masterton yesterday to Mrs Coutts, who is about leaving with Mr Coutts for Palmerston North. Quite a number of lady friends were present.
Miss St. George, of Wellington, is ■at present visiting Mrs L. St. George, of Masterton.
Mr Edward Page, Mayor of Eketahuna, was. a visitor to Masterton last evening.
Professor W. T. Mills, of Milwaukee, U.S.A., who has been commissioned by the Trades and Labour Councils' Federation to tour New Zealand, arrived at Auckland from Sydney on •Sunday.
The death is announced by cable from Adelaide of Lady Smith, wife of Sir Edwin Smith, an ex-Cabinet Ministerj and several times Mayor of Adelaide.
Mr Carle Smith, of the Masterton branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been transferred to Sydney. >le left Masterton yesterday afternoon for Wellington, en -route for Sydney.
