BISHOP SPROTT.
AND THE DRIFTING MASSES. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. ' This evening the Rev. T. H. Sprott, the newly-consecrated Bishop of Wellington, was installed at a devotional service in St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral. Archdeacon Fancourt, on behalf of the Church endowed him with all the authorities, rights, and obligations, and handed him the pastoral staff of office. Bishop Sprott then preached from the text, "Love the brotherhood," and expressed his deep gratitude for the many expressions of goodwill he had received. He would do his work bravely and honestly, to the best of his ability. He thought they should pursue and strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, in order to try to stop the large drifting away from Christianity that was now so noticeable. People were now"loosening their hold on the Christian ideal, not because of conviction, but:simply.Jpecause of an unconscious yielding to the influences of social surroundings, which were antagonistic to Christianity.
