AN OFFICIAL REPORT.
SHORTAGE OF FUNDS
(Received June 3, 9 a.m.)
PARIS, June 2
The Senatorial Committee of Enquiry regarding the liquidation of Church estates is discussing an official report, showing that forty' million pounds sterling, which the Government predicted would be available for lay schools, had been almost entirely dissipated in law costs, owing to the religious congregations' fight, extending over a decade. The congregation had appealed on every question until the liquidator found that the Church was almost insolvent. V. Possibly a balance of a million and a half would be saved, which sum would be required for the infirm and aged members of the congregations.
