APATHETIC CITIZENSHIP.
AN APPEAL TO THE YOUNC. After the Bible Class meeting at tlie Y.M.C.A. rooms in Masterton yesterday afternoon, where .an interesting address was delivered on the subject "Are the Gospels Historical ?" the Strangers' Tea was held, over which Mr J. Pryor presided. The speaker for the day was Mr C. E. Daniell, who spoke on Citizen or Resident—Which? Mr Danell spoke very, interestingly on some of Jfis early impressions, bring- | ing home to his younger hearers i miany useful lessons. He had, he ' said, no time for the main who sihirked his work, who neglected his duty as a citizen on earth, because . Ms citizenship was of another world. If a man was not prepared to make heaven here below, there would not be much heaven for him hereafter. His, appeal to the boys to make the most of present-day advantages and opiportunities was emphasised by the recollection of many things seen during travel, which plainly showed the difficulties some of our forefathers had to encounter. Masterton's 5000 people had, he said, more institutions for the public good than any place he knew of. This, in itself, was an important matter. It laid a responsibility upon the pres-ent-day boy. He was acraiazed at the apathy of the people of Masterton, of the awful lack of interest in, things in general. Many illustrations were brought forward in appeal, which finished an interesting and profitable address. Several strangers were present, and votes of thanks were accorded the speaker and the ladies of St. Matthew's Church, for the provisions at the tea.
