Mr H. W. Northcroft, S.M., one time of Masterton, wasdecorated wtih the New Zealand Cross at a Territorial parade in Auckland on Saturday. Mr W. H. Skinner, for some years past chief draughtsman at New Plymouth, has received the appointment of chief surveyor and Crown Lands Commissioner at Blenheim. He will take up his duties in October next. The Labour Party has unanimously selected Mr D. McLaren, M.P., as its candidate for the Wellington East seat at the next general election. Bishop Julius( of Christ church, is at present in Wellington. He will be Acting-Primate at the consecration of the Rev. T. H. Sprott to-morrow. Mr D. Buick, M.P., is reported somewhat seriously ill at his home at Palme rston North. He is suffering from an attack of pleurisy. The Taranaki Herald says that Mr Coleman Phillips, the "father of the co-operative system of dairying in New Zealand, and President of the New Zealand Holst-ein-Fresian Association," was in New Plymouth last week inspecting the black and white herds.

The Damievirke News of Friday says:—Mr J. McHattie, who has been connected with the Dannevirke Post Office for some time, left to-day for Greytown. where he will take up the duties of postmaster. Prior to his departure Mr McHattie was the recipient of a handsome travelling rug as a. presentation from the Post Office staff. Mr Black, postmaster, who made the presentation, referred in complimentary terms to the recipient's popularity, and to the way in which he carried out his work. He also congratulated him on his promotion, and wished him every success in his new work. Mr McHattie suitably responded. The departing official was extremely popular in Dannevirke, and carried out his duties in a manner that won the warm esteem of the business public with whom he came in contact.
