A MOTOR-CAR'S LEAP AT BROOKLANDS.

An extraordinary accident occurred ■at Brooklands. recently. At the conclusion of tlie seventh race G. Wilkinson, driving Mr A. T. Craig's 27.3 h.p. Benz, earned stradglit on after passing the post, instead of turning to the left .to ease up, owing to the clutch jamiming- The car leapt over the track at a- speed estimated at about 90 miles an. hour.

On the other, side of the track is a deep V-shaped cutting, which is quite '4oft. across. So great was the momentum of the car that it cleared both the cutting and a tail iron paling, and landed on the opposite bank. Wilkinson, who was thrown out into the sand bank below, was extricated with difficulty and removed in an. unconscious condition to the hospital, where it was found that he had fractured a hone at the base ■of his skuli.
